Alter Bahnhof Altenau

In the beautiful Harz mountains, approximately 300 km from the Dutch town of Enschede, the first of probably a total of seven apartments will be finished and available for rent in Spring 2014. Each of the apartments has a private terrace facing south and will have a capacity that varies from two to eight persons. The apartments will be completely furnished and fully equipped.

The apartments are located in the former railway station (Alter Bahnhof) of the mountain village Altenau, which belongs to the municipality of Oberharz. The town, at a height of almost 600 meters, is close to the highest point of the Harz mountains, the 1142m high mountain ‘De Brocken’. The mountain is the highest summit of the mountain range and is also part of the national park ‘Harz’.

By visiting this (temporary) website regularly you can keep track of the progress of renovation and the possibilities for rental and stay. As soon as the construction activities will come to an end and the apartments are getting ready for rental, this website will be adapted.

The really bad frames and windows on the front side of the cellar have been removed and walled. Ventilation grills have been placed in the walls, so that the basement is good provided with fresh air. The entrance to the basement from the outside has been flattened and will be paved soon.

The camping terrain was dealt with by cleaning, mowing and taking care of several large trees and bushes. Starting from now, the terrain will be cared for weekly.

Due to the nice weather conditions, most of the activities taken care of are taking place outside. In the corner of the rain gutter the decayed bars and the roof have been replaced.

Shortly, we have started restoring the outside of the building with sandpapering and painting.
